Salmon Fishing Tip - Using Plug-Cut Herring

Whether it's open ocean, bay, or river fishing for salmon - Pacific Northwest fishermen have long been using plug-cut herring for bait.  Here in Oregon, plug-cut herring is the bait of choice when trolling for Salmon.  However, many beginner and experienced fishermen are not used to using or rigging real bait for salmon, let alone plug-cut herring.   It's important to rig a plug-cut herring so that it rolls properly at your trolling speed - resulting in a slow, tight roll that mimicks a wounded bait fish - something that Chinook salmon simply can't resist.

Here's a fairly good video showing an example of getting the perfect roll trolling for salmon with plug-cut herring.
